Global affairs encompasses the complex issues that transcend borders and cannot be solved by a single country acting alone, such as poverty, war, climate change, terrorism and economic development. As a major in global affairs, you’ll explore these questions through real-world examples, simulations like Model United Nations and hands-on research. You’ll also learn valuable skills that employers across industries value, such as critical thinking and effective communication.
You’ll take courses in a variety of disciplines, including political science, history and economics. You’ll explore how conflict, diplomacy and cooperation among countries and regions shape international politics and policies. In addition, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of different cultures, languages and traditions, as well as develop analytical tools to address cross-cultural challenges.
As a global affairs major, you’ll have opportunities to pursue an internship or participate in a study abroad program. You’ll also be able to choose from an array of elective courses, such as the law and public policy track or our 3+3 Bachelor’s & JD program, which provides a pathway for you to earn a law degree in partnership with Seton Hall University or Villanova University.
Students are encouraged to apply for the major in the fall of their sophomore year. Admission is competitive, and applicants are evaluated on the basis of their introductory economics, political science and history courses, as well as their L4 language requirement (if applicable). Students accepted into the major will be required to complete a capstone course — GLBL 4499 or Senior Essay in the Global Affairs program — during their senior year.
